The Memory of Trees

As part of my interest in ancient megalithic sites I have recently started to explore the sacredness of trees. They have long been recognized as a symbol of life and regeneration and, to some, of mystical knowledge and space.

Trees, for me, have a memory that holds events from the past that manifests in changes to their shape, colour even atmosphere, making them a magical living being. I have always felt energised when in their presence, drawn by roots, shapes, colours and the mood of each place. I recognise that this is also the experience of others from the prayers and memorials that are created around them.

The images here are an excerpt from my book “The Memory of Trees” which looks at the form, function, texture, spirit and environment of trees and the evidence of the affinity many people have with them as sacred spaces.
